Art Expo Malaysia is back! #artexpo #art

I like the cheery colours here
I just realized I've not blogged for quite some time being busy with recruiting recruiters for my recruitment business (got your tongue twisted there? LOL) and planning a few upcoming events plus attending the Young Corporate Entrepreneur event and BFM Breakaway event this week.

I'm a little more free this weekend and thought I'd better get out of my shell and visit the Art Expo (it's 9th edition) again this year. I don't think I can visit Kakiseni though, which is sad.

You would probably know that the haze is also back in the Klang Valley but I braved the bad air and drove myself to Matrade after a hearty breakfast of two Roti Canai and one teh tarik with my hubby.

Left: On a perfectly clear day in Brickfields, KL              Right: Hazy days are back

It wasn't crowded which I like so I had the time to admire the pieces, pretend I know everything about art and scoff at some of the pieces that looked just like smeared paint.

Some 2,000 works by approximately 400 artists are represented by 70 participating art galleries / groups from 30 countries at the show.

Most of the biggest names in Malaysian art are represented by reputable local galleries, which form the largest exhibitor group. Neighbouring country Singapore forms the second largest bandwagon, with participation from as many as 13 galleries.

Below are some of my favourite pieces.

Not quite my favourite but the 3D thing is cute

I usually don't like nudes but I didn't find this one too vulgar.  I liked the style and colours.
Artist Yeo Siak Goon 杨昔银  from TheArtFellas.com (Singapore)

"Long Way to Go" Oil on canvas Artist Wang Yufeng

I attempted a similar water colour version last year (see below) but his is much better I think! :D
Acryllic on canvas "We Are The Night" by artist Kyee Myintt Saw (RM15,000)

Watercolour on water soaked paper (RM350)

I can never get enough of boats and rivers and seas.
Oil on canvas "Out-door at Pulau Ketam" by artist Myoe Kyaw (RM7,900)

Oil on canvas "Sunset on Inlay Lake" by Artist Myint Soe RM7,000

Wet roads and reflections attract me too.
Oil on canvas "Freezing City" by artist Muhammad Hafiz Azizi b Mohd Ahmad Saad (RM4,250)

Oil on canvas "Golden City" by artist Muhammad Hafiz Azizi b Mohd Ahmad Saad (RM3,850)

I like quirky art too.
Oil on canvas "Low Clouds" by Anna Berezovskaya (RM450,000)

Oil on canvas "Flight to the Moon" by Anna Berezovskaya (RM210,000)
This is how I sometimes see things without my glasses on.
Oil on canvas -No title so I'll call it "Blurry lines by the riverside" by artist Liliana Spiktorenko (RM15,800)

Nice blocks of colour and reflections
Oil and acrylic on canvas "Zodiac No.6" by artist Tran Quoc Tuan (RM18,000)

Interesting shadows and colours.
Oil and acrylic on canvas "Choice" by artist Tran Quoc Tuan (RM18,000)

I like Street scenes too.
Watercolour on paper "Best cendol in the world" by Tilen Tee (RM4,200)
My failed version. I think I'm not using the right paper and won't blame my lack of skills.
"Penang" (RM100)

Oil on canvas by Woo Byung Chul (USD6000)

Oil on canvas by Woo Byung Chul (USD6000)

I'm sure the raindrops on glass effect and blurry background is not easy to paint!
Tempera on canvas "Landscape in Drip 3" by Yang Xu

As I can't paint raindrops and blurry backdrops, a photo using my phone will have to do.
"City of Lights in the Rain" by Hanniz (RM500)

Mixed media on canvas "The Golden Autumn" by Sanzi (RM432,000)

Mixed media on canvas "Snow dances only for me" by Sanzi (RM168,000)

I love the dramatic skies and single tree against the white foreground.
Mixed media on canvas "Integrate" by Sanzi (RM432,000)

    1. The ones with the higher price tags are by artists who have already created a name for themselves. The value will go up in price over the years so it's a good idea to invest in art when you know the artist is established
