Can I Have One of These Kitchens?

Source: http://bestkitchenideasblog.com/

When I was growing up at home, for some strange reason, my parents and I would usually go out for dinner before going home after work, while my grandma would just cook for herself. She would prepare breakfast which consisted of either scrambled eggs or sunny side ups with bread or cornflakes before I went to work.

When we had our dinner at home (usually we'll get take-aways), my parents and I would eat together while my grandma ate on her own, much earlier in the evening. My grandma cooks Malay food really well and she can bake as well. I'm her only grandchild so I try to share a meal with her every few weeks when my work schedule is not too tight. We go grocery shopping together once a month. Now that she is older, she doesn't cook or bake too much.

I think because I had a lot of take-away food at home with my family, I find that home-cooked meals are really precious and I try to cook for hubby and me whenever I can (plus dining outside is really expensive now). I'm not a great cook (my grandma's skills never rubbed off on me) so I usually stick to 2 dishes with rice or a western meal either pasta or tortilla wraps or roasted chicken.

My hubby and I work really long hours and we started the bad habit of unwinding in front of the TV while having a late dinner. Our dining table is his work station so we don't dine on it, sadly. If by some miracle, we do break the habit of having TV dinners, I would really love to cook meals and dine in one of the kitchens below.

I like woody furniture and plants but plants don't survive in my care :(

I love the pull out spice drawer though I might only be filling 2 shelves with the amount of cooking I do

Brick walls! My new favourite thing!

This is a biiiit too white for me but I think with colourful tableware, it might work out.

  1. It may be our generation and our grandparents' generation. We're kind of the same - we eat out a lot. The times that we don't eat out, we have take away or food delivered to our place. My grandmother is like your grandma, she cooks and prepares her own food. She spends a lot of time in the kitchen. Sadly, I didn't inherit that from her because I think I grew up seeing my Mom as a career woman.

I love those kitchens though. They're all beautiful!

    1. I used to love the large island but perhaps having a separate dining area is better as the island can be an obstacle

    1. Yup, I used to imagine having an island so that the kids can help prepare meals with me but I don't have kids yet and after some thought, it could be an obstacle in the kitchen! But it does make a nice gossiping area, right?

  12. Kitchen is the best part of a house after the bed room .And it is best that it is well maintained and the ambiance is just right. Good kitchen designs to have but we have a small kitchen place area.

  15. That is such an ideal dining room and kitchen set-up I only see in model homes and I guess homes of the rich and famous when they get featured on TV. They do not look like regular ones owned by regular folks.
