A short chat with Mr Lim Tsaan Neng, Assistant Boutique Manager, who also happens to be a freelance orchestra singer when not working at the store, reveals a little more about MIDO's history and inspiration.

Founded in Switzerland in 1918 by Georges Schaeren, Mido is currently based in the city of Le Locle, in the heart of the Swiss Jura mountains. The name Mido comes from the Spanish “Yo mido”, meaning “I measure”. Mr Schaeren created the brand's first water-resistant watch after he fell off his horse into a river spoiling his watch.

Beyond fashion and passing trends, MIDO watches are distinguished by their durability. MIDO shares these essential values with iconic and historic architectural glories.

Taking the example of the Baroncelli. This watch face's subtle curves and contours are inspired by the Rennes Opera House's rounded architecture. The pebbled leather strap resembles the cobbled road at the Opera House.

For nearly a century, Mido has been a global benchmark in Swiss-made mechanical watches.
Mido watches are available from 2,700 official retailers in 70 countries. The brand is part of the Swatch Group, the world leader in watchmaking.

After viewing their watches on display, I find myself drawn to the MIDO Commander Lady watch.

It has a stainless steel case with PVD treatment and a sapphire crystal face. It's also water resistant up to a pressure of 5 bar and is shock resistant. I love the pink gold accents!
