Get Paid to Visit Malls

Caught your attention, didn't I? I first came across this concept a few years ago when I wanted to earn extra money doing freelance work. There was an ad looking for Mystery Shopper supervisors and with nothing to lose, I applied and got the job!

But what exactly is mystery shopping? Basically, mystery shopping involves hiring shoppers by a brand/company to evaluate the service level and product knowledge of their front desk/ customer service or in my case- luxury brand beauty advisors. Sometimes, they also send these shoppers to competing brands.

Once shoppers profiles are approved and trained, they are assigned specific beauty counters and to specific beauty advisors so that every single staff is evaluated fairly. If a brand has counters nationwide, shoppers are hired nationwide as well.

Shoppers then visit the counter, ask about a range of products or a specific product and report on how the beauty advisor tries to convince them to buy the product. Shoppers also note their level of professionalism and how well the beauty advisors try to understand the shoppers' needs.

Sometimes shoppers are even required to record the conversation for two reasons- proof of visit and to see how well the beauty advisor actually services the customer.

After the visit, shoppers then upload the recording on a website and do a detailed online report.

It is hard work but shoppers are compensated well for their time (they sometimes have to visit a counter few times as the target beauty advisor might be MIA at the time of the visit). As a shopping mission usually takes place over a month or two nationwide, shoppers usually get paid in cash or compensated for a product purchase a month or two after all the shoppers reports have been approved by the client. It's a long process as each and every report is read through in detail and whatever discrepancies are resolved before being approved.

Do you know that some freelancers make it a full time job just mystery shopping for different companies? It's a lucrative job!

Do you have spy skills and love to shop? There is a mission going on as I write. Just send in your application to inquiryms_malaysia@acdluxe.com. (The brief can be read in the image below)

  3. I actually saw your post and I signed up for it but I'm a lil afraid to send the email lolx... Because if I do mystery shopping, I'll be with my baby (unless my husband or my mum goes with me and helps babysit my baby for that duration)... I love mystery shopping, I used to do it last time when I was with Nokia & Samsung to spot-check on the sales staff knowledge and customer service hehe

    1. Don't think there should be any issue with bringing your baby as long as you can concentrate on completing the steps required during the visit and make sure the whole conversation is recorded :)
