I'm someone who tries to recycle whenever possible and I split my trash into two bundles- food waste and dry waste. I'm not sure that helps much as I live in a condominium and I'm pretty sure that ALL trash gets dumped together before being picked up by the trash collectors.
I avoid using the air-conditioning in hopes that I can reduce the amount of electricity generated (and maybe I'm a bit of a cheapskate) and I make sure that I don't waste too much water by limiting myself to 10-minute warm showers (I used to have cold showers but since discovering the comfort of warm water, I can't do without it) and I only wash hubby and my clothes twice a week.
I would declare myself an environmentalist, but I'm far from being one for sure. As an event planner, it's not unusual to be carrying all sorts of props in my car and taking public transportation is not much of an option unless it's for a meeting in Kuala Lumpur in which case the LRT is a good choice to combat the jams.
I drive alone quite a lot (contribution to the pollution yikes!) and I hear lots of complaints from friends about petrol prices going up so it's great news that an app has been created to reduce the number of cars on the road (less pollution) AND provide a carpooling option for those who don't want to drive so much to save cost. Double bonus!
What's that? Carpooling isn't safe? Well, yes, if you are carpooling with complete strangers but this app has safety features to protect the passenger and the rider. Best of all, it's FREE!
So what is this app called? Tripda!
Tripda is currently giving away cash rewards to early adopters i.e. RM 50 per trip, Zalora and FoodPanda vouchers and more! Feel free to visit their Facebook page for more details!

This app makes it easier for you to carpool. I have a car but if the destination is close enough, I just walk or take a quick cab.
ReplyDeleteI love walking when I'm on holiday but in Kuala Lumpur where I stay, it's not so convenient to walk. The LRT is good but getting to stations and parking there can be an inconvenience so this app is good
DeleteCar pooling is and will always be a wonderful idea as it really reduces pollution (and gas consumption for your end). We used to have this kind here in the Philippines but as far as I know, the government have stopped or at least tried to stop their operations because it's affecting the taxi/cab business.
ReplyDeleteIt is the same here with Uber. Not sure why they can't work hand in hand. Just offer competitive prices and service and all will be happy
Delete'This is great! I like the idea of having this in the city. We just need to be careful who we allow in our car. But, the idea and concept is pretty fresh and Im sure this will be a hit!
ReplyDeleteYup, I don't trust strangers but their safety features seem credible
DeleteIt's good you are doing your bit though. Every little bit helps.
ReplyDeleteNice apps for all! It'll give more convenience and results easily. Another thing, it's free to use.
ReplyDeleteThis app is so cool! It's really useful this way. It will give you more comfort and it can help you save!
ReplyDeleteTraffic is major problem here in Manila. If ever Tripda is made available here, just be sure to tap the LTO or LTFRB first to avoid problems like the ride-sharing program UBER encountered recently - KarenT
ReplyDeleteJams are a major problem here too. Uber faced some problems here too so hopefully Tripda can overcome the challenges faced by Uber
DeleteActually my boss had thought of developing the same application concept. Apparently, there are many right now in the market that were released. This one's pretty trusted!
ReplyDeleteIt's cool to create free apps for the community's better living :)
DeleteEvery little thing we do for the environment will help - turning of appliances on standby, turning off fans and air-con when we leave the rooms, not using a dryer and let the sun do its job instead etc. Carpooling is a great idea - we have it where I live but it is monitored - you need to register online with name and rego and also need to do a police check. It seems to be hugely popular.
ReplyDeleteCarpooling used to be encouraged by the Ministry of Transport a few years ago. They even created special lanes for those who carpool. It never really succeeded. Hopefully this app can encourage carpooling
DeleteReminds me of the another app named Uber. Though I guess, these can actually help considering carpooling is one huge step of being a helpful to the environment and at the same time, on your transportation budget.
ReplyDeleteWe all need to be conscious towards our environment and take whatever steps possible to improve it. I think the app is very useful!
ReplyDeleteUber offers similar service. I know people who use carpooling when bringing kids to school but this is done with people you know. It is a different story when carpooling with strangers. I hope this is really safe while helping reduce the carbon footprint. -katrina centeno
ReplyDeleteAh yes, i've heard of this app! not much ppl use it here though
ReplyDeleteA fab idea, this app... Have never heard of it before - is it newish? Would love to read more of what users think of it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Yes, it was just very recently launched :) They're having special deals on their FB page to encourage people to try it
DeleteI used to think that I am an environmental friendly person until I realised how much rubbish I produced and wasted by not recycling them! Besides that, recycling is a conscious effort which requires us to change our lifestyle to succeed!
ReplyDeleteGood idea for the environment but yes, there is a concern about carpooling with total strangers. You never know nowadays. Keep safe!
ReplyDeleteI think it is great that these car sharing sites are popping up all over. We have one here in Canada that is strictly for Uni students and with their limited budgets it works well.
ReplyDeleteI won't call myself an environmentalist either, but I like how this reduces pollution because of less cars on the road! less carbon footprint, better to reduce climate change!
ReplyDeleteCar pooling is great for the pocket and also for the environment. I think this will definitely help you carpool safely. Thanks for sharing dear :)
ReplyDeleteSounds very interesting. I'd love to learn more about Tripda and it's key features as I haven't heard about it before.
