Kakiseni International Arts Festival (#kakisenifest) 12-16 September 2014

Black Box

I get excited whenever I hear that a performance, arts, music or film festival is being organized in Kuala Lumpur. I've not had the privilege to organize one (yet!) but when I have a bit of free time, I like to let out the arty farty spirit in me by attending these events. I enjoy watching the performances and learning how these events are organized so that I'm prepared to organize future events while being more careful about potential hiccups which are bound to happen.

Anyway, if you are like me and enjoy art festivals, you're in luck! There's one starting today at The Pavilion!

The Kakiseni International Arts Festival is a five-day extravaganza of whimsical artistry proudly presented by Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad and Kakiseni. Featuring Malaysian and International award-winning performing arts showcases; visual art installations; busking by lyrical poets, singer songwriters, bands and international workshops, all to conclude with a street parade at Bukit Bintang in celebration of Malaysia Day 16th September. Performances are free for all. (ain't it great?)

I'm looking forward to watching the following two performances this coming Monday:

“Criaturas Particulares”
Performed By Roberto White

in more than 30 international festivals in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

A theatre spectacle with figures that mixes mime language with wordless object theatre in a small and medium format, suitable for audiences of all ages from 5 years old on. Special Creatures is bound to bring lots of joy and laughter to both kids and adults.

    1. Thanks, Rachael! Malaysia's art scene is still very young and I wish there were more. Also, ticket prices can make it mostly accessible to the affluent. However, kakiseni is free for all and is's really wonderful to experience Malaysian and international artistes' works

    1. That's so true. Sometimes, the emphasis is on international artistes that the locals are sometimes forgotten. With festivals like these, the locals are made aware that there are incredibly talented local performers too
